EMDR Trauma Intensives

Focused, Science-Based Support for Healing

What Is an EMDR Intensive?

An EMDR Intensive is an extended therapy session that gives you more time and space to work through difficult or painful experiences without feeling rushed.

Instead of meeting for one short session each week, an EMDR Intensive allows you to focus on healing during a longer, uninterrupted session. This can be especially helpful when something feels “stuck,” keeps coming up, or hasn’t shifted despite ongoing effort.

How EMDR Helps (In Simple Terms)

EMDR is a well-researched therapy approach that helps the brain process distressing memories in a healthier way. When we experience trauma or overwhelming stress, the brain sometimes has trouble fully processing what happened. As a result, memories can stay “stuck,” continuing to trigger strong emotions, body reactions, or negative beliefs long after the event is over.

EMDR works by helping the brain reprocess these memories so they become less intense and less disruptive. Over time, many people notice:

  • Fewer emotional triggers

  • Less distress when thinking about past experiences

  • Improved sense of calm and clarity

  • Greater ability to stay present in daily life

EMDR is recognized as an effective, evidence-based treatment for trauma and is widely used in clinical settings.

Why an Intensive Format Can Be Helpful

Research and clinical experience show that having more time in session can be beneficial for some people. EMDR Intensives allow for:

  • More continuity (less stopping and starting)

  • Deeper focus on specific concerns

  • Reduced time spent “catching up” each week

  • Thoughtful pacing with built-in grounding and closure

This format can be especially useful if:

  • Weekly sessions feel too short

  • You want focused support around a specific issue

  • Your schedule makes weekly therapy difficult

  • You prefer fewer sessions with more depth

A Thoughtful, Trauma-Informed Approach

EMDR Intensives are not about rushing healing or pushing through pain. Sessions are carefully structured to support safety, emotional regulation, and integration. Time is built in for preparation, grounding, and closing the session so you are not left feeling overwhelmed.

Because this work is focused and in-depth, a brief screening is completed beforehand to ensure this format is appropriate and supportive for you.
