Professional Boundaries & Safety Commitment

At Pathways to Healing & Social Justice, we are committed to providing ethical, respectful, and trauma-informed mental health care in a safe and professional environment for both clients and clinicians.

Therapy is a professional relationship that relies on clear boundaries in order to be effective. All interactions—whether in person, by phone, electronically, or via telehealth—must remain respectful, appropriate, and within professional limits.

Zero-Tolerance for Sexual Harassment or Boundary Violations

We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment, inappropriate behavior, or boundary violations toward clinicians or staff.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Sexualized, flirtatious, or suggestive comments

  • Inappropriate remarks about appearance or personal life

  • Requests for romantic, social, or non-professional contact

  • Attempts at physical contact beyond appropriate professional norms

  • Sexualized or overly familiar language in texts, emails, or telehealth communication

Such behavior compromises the therapeutic relationship and may result in immediate termination of services.

Safety, Ethics, and Termination of Services

In accordance with professional ethical standards and applicable state laws, services may be discontinued when continuation of treatment is no longer clinically appropriate, ethical, or safe.

When services are terminated, reasonable steps are taken to support continuity of care, which may include:

  • Providing referral platforms to locate another qualified provider

  • Offering crisis and emergency resources

In some circumstances—particularly those involving safety or boundary violations—services may be terminated without advance notice.

Telehealth-Specific Expectations

For telehealth services:

  • All communication must remain professional and appropriate

  • Sexualized, excessive, or inappropriate electronic communication is prohibited

  • Sessions must take place in a private, appropriate setting

  • Recording of sessions without written consent is not permitted

Failure to adhere to these expectations may result in termination of services.

Our Commitment

Our policies are designed to protect the wellbeing of everyone involved and to ensure that therapy remains a space for healing, accountability, and professional care.
